AI Integrated Writing Task

Hello again everybody! Isn’t it so scary how time flies. We’ve already come to the end of the semester and this will be the last post of this semester. It was a pleasure for me to be able to share my thoughts with you guys. Hope to see you again, but first, let me talk about our last assignment of the semester.

For our last assignment, we were tasked with designing a lesson plan and a worksheet that integrates AI for high school prep students. We aimed to improve their writing skills while also making them practice responsible and beneficial AI use. We decided to use “school uniforms” as our topic for the writing worksheet because we thought that it is a part of nearly every student’s daily life. We designed our worksheet and lesson plan using the ASSURE model.

We wanted to be very careful about how the technology was used because we didn't want the AI to do all the writing and thinking for the students; we wanted it to support them. So, we clearly stated in our worksheet that ChatGPT must be used only for feedback.

The activity guides students through different steps. First, students are asked simple, personal questions about their opinions based on “school uniforms”. Then, they are introduced to a set of vocabulary to be used in the main writing task. After that, students are asked to organize their ideas before starting to write their first draft. When they are all ready to write, the main task begins. Once they write their first draft on their own, they use a pre-determined prompt provided by their teacher to get feedback from the AI. They then use that advice to revise their work. At last, they are asked a couple of questions to reflect on their experience about getting feedback from AI.
