AI Tools in Language Learning and Teaching

Due to this week’s assignment, I had the chance to have a discussion with an Ai chatbot, write a report about my conversation and revise that report with the feedback that I received also from an Ai. I used ChatGPT’s chatbot.

This assignment made me realize that chatbots are more advanced than I thought. In the past, I once tried to have a conversation with a chatbot, and it was not the best. There were a lot of misunderstandings and follow-up problems in the conversation. A couple of months later, after chatting with a chatbot again, I am now stunned by the improvement in these Ai tools in such a short period of time. It was kind of an odd feeling because the response time of the chatbot was spectacular. It was fast enough to keep the conversation alive and smooth, but it also had small pauses now and then which felt like I was talking with a human being that was thinking and taking its time to response. In addition to that, the tone and the usage of stress in the sentences and words were better than I expected.

In this assignment I would say that Ai tools helped me a lot. They were my main topic after all. It was pretty easy to use ChatGPT’s chatbot, but the only catch was that the time for advanced chatbot was limited. After completing my discussion with the chatbot, I went on to get the transcript of the conversation and write my report. After writing the report, I again used ChatGPT to receive feedback on my report. The feedback it gave me was super beneficial and it helped me to re-write my report to make it clearer and easier to understand.

In the future I will definitely recommend my students who can not find the opportunity to practice English on a daily basis to chat with a chatbot. I believe that in language learning, chatbots would be extremely beneficial to students who are anxious to talk to a real person in a language that they are not completely confident in. Also, I am now sure that receiving feedback from an Ai tool is way faster and more available than trying to contact a teacher or a fellow student. With that said, I will make sure to find a way to incorporate different Ai tools in my classes in the future.
